RPS Group work with Southway Housing Trust on £4M EDRF Arrowfield Decarbonisation Project

RPS Group has partnered with Southway Housing Trust to undertake the EDRF Arrowfield Decarbonisation Project. This ground-breaking initiative is a big step towards a greener future, and we are honoured to be implementing the project on their behalf, replacing old gas boilers in 396 houses with eco-friendly boilers. The project also encompassed crucial wall insulation measures to ensure energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This is a fantastic project that reflects both SHT’s and RPS Group’s commitment to redefining heating systems for a greener future.

As gas boilers are phased out, ASHPs are poised to take centre stage as the preferred heating alternative.

Southway Housing Trust’s commitment to its Zero Carbon 2038 Strategy has set an innovative example in the industry. Pioneering environmental responsibility and tenant welfare, the trust is poised to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038 – a significant lead over the UK’s national goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The integration of ASHPs not only contributes to this environmental commitment but also brings forth economic benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. As gas prices rise and electricity costs decrease, tenants stand to benefit economically from this shift. Beyond being an environmental necessity, ASHPs are a strategic choice that ensures long-term financial viability for both tenants and landlords.

The Arrowfield Project, while still in its early stages with 40 installations completed out of 396, is paving the way for other housing associations to follow suit. This initiative is a testament to the importance of leadership and community engagement. SHT’s commitment to carbon literacy and collaboration with local authorities have been pivotal in making this initiative a reality.

Overcoming obstacles was an important element of the process. It was critical to upgrade energy infrastructure, secure funds, and educate renters about the technology. Collaboration with district network operators and early tenant participation was critical in properly aligning these components.

The collaboration between RPS Group and Southway Housing Trust serves as a beacon of innovation, uniting technology, environmental responsibility, and tenant welfare. As communities and industries increasingly rally towards sustainability, initiatives like the EDRF Arrowfield Decarbonisation Project demonstrate the practicality and importance of transitioning to cleaner energy solutions.
