Rothwell Plumbing Services Group is thrilled to announce its new role as a patron of Wigan Youth Zone (WYZ), committing to support this vital local charity for the next three years.

RPS Group is thrilled to announce its new role as a patron of Wigan Youth Zone (WYZ), committing to support this vital local charity for the next three years. Our involvement was inaugurated with a successful Business Breakfast Brunch event, where we joined other patrons and community leaders in celebrating the work and future goals of WYZ.

Committed to Community Support

Wigan Youth Zone, a state-of-the-art youth facility located in Wigan town centre, has been making a significant impact since its opening in June 2013. The charity provides a safe space for young people aged 8 to 21 (up to 25 for those with additional needs) to meet friends, engage in new experiences, and receive the support necessary to develop their potential. From career guidance and sports facilities to holiday clubs and programs that reduce antisocial behaviour, WYZ offers a wide range of services aimed at fostering self-belief, increased aspirations, and resilience among its members. The charity focuses on offering targeted support to young people who are most at risk, ensuring they have a safe place to go, engaging activities to participate in, and someone to talk to.

Graham Rothwell, RPS Group, Chief Executive expressed the company’s commitment to supporting WYZ:

RPS has chosen to support WYZ after seeing for ourselves the wonderful work they do with young people and families across the area.

From encouraging new hobbies, supporting career choices, providing fantastic sports facilities, hosting holiday clubs for younger children and contributing to the reduction in antisocial behaviour across the area.

The range of services WYZ provide young people is fantastic!

Social Value and supporting the communities we work in are really important to us. We hope our patronage enables WYZ to continue to improve the lives of young people from across Wigan- and we look forward to working with WYZ across our partnership to make a real impact.

Highlights from the Business Breakfast Brunch

The Business Breakfast Brunch was a tremendous success, featuring Greater Manchester Combined Authority Mayor Andy Burnham as the guest speaker. Mayor Burnham emphasized the importance of investing in the infrastructure of the Borough and the future of qualifications for young people.

He highlighted the essential role of Wigan Youth Zone, stating,

Wigan Youth Zone is not a discretionary service, it is an essential service. In an ideal world, we’d have a Wigan Youth Zone in every town. It is not a nice to have, it is a must-have.

The event also included information about the new 3-year strategy and the screening of  “My Letter to a Youth Worker” video, which showcased the profound impact of WYZ on young lives:

RPS Group is eager to continue participating in future WYZ events, including the next business event on 20th September with Alison McKenzie-Folan, CEO of Wigan Council. Our partnership with WYZ aligns with our core values of social responsibility and community engagement, and we are excited to contribute to the positive development of young people in Wigan.

As a patron, RPS Group is committed to supporting WYZ in its mission to instil confidence, resilience, and aspirations in the young people of Wigan. Together, we strive to make a meaningful difference in our community.
